Lincoln County, Nevada, USA – The Kane Springs Fire continues to burn in southern Nevada, south of Caliente near Kane Springs Road, as firefighters work to secure containment lines across steep terrain in the region.

The wildfire is located roughly 17 miles southwest of Caliente and about 5 miles southwest of Elgin, and remains active across Bureau of Land Management land alongside the larger Grapevine Fire.

Current estimates place the fire at approximately 14,000 to 16,100 acres, with recent reports listing it around 16,104 acres. Containment is reported between 25% and 40%, with progress improving on the eastern and western sides of the fire perimeter.

Fire behavior remains active but has shown signs of moderation in some areas. The blaze continues to produce flanking spread, uphill runs, and torching in heavier fuels including grass, brush, and pinyon-juniper vegetation.

Steep terrain and shifting winds have complicated suppression efforts, although the fire is moving into lighter vegetation in certain sections, allowing crews to gain ground in some areas.

Interagency teams are assigned to the incident, including hotshot crews, engines, dozers, helicopters, and air tankers. Firefighters are using roads and previous burn scars to establish and reinforce containment lines.

The fire began around June 17, 2026, likely caused by lightning, and has been burning at the same time as the nearby Grapevine Fire. Together, the two incidents have affected more than 30,000 to 34,000 acres.

Officials report no evacuations at this time. Firefighters have achieved steadier progress on the Kane Springs Fire compared to Grapevine due to more favorable terrain in certain sections, although conditions remain dynamic because of dry fuels and potential wind shifts.
