Monte della Calvana, Italy – On the night of Easter Monday, April 5–6, 2026, the Italian Air Force conducted a dramatic mountain rescue on Monte della Calvana, in the province of Prato, Tuscany.
Video filmed by X user Aeronautica Militare shows the interior of an HH-139B rescue helicopter from the 15° Stormo. Crew members in green flight suits and harnesses work urgently under green and red night-vision lighting, handling the winch cable and rescue equipment in the cramped cabin.
Infrared and thermal camera footage displays yellow heat signatures of the ground team and the missing 90-year-old man far below. The helicopter hovers while the winch lowers and lifts the casualty secured on a stretcher, with ground rescuers from CNSAS (Alpine rescue) and Vigili del Fuoco assisting on site.
The footage highlights the high-risk, coordinated night extraction of the elderly man who had become lost in the mountainous terrain.
The Italian Air Force described the operation: “On the night of Easter Monday, an HH-139B helicopter from the 15° Stormo of the Italian Air Force intervened in the Monte della Calvana area to recover a 90-year-old man who was lost, in collaboration with personnel from CNSAS and the Vigili del Fuoco.”
