Newaygo County, Michigan – Good Samaritans contacted the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in June 2026 after finding an injured bald eagle with a puncture wound in its shoulder.

The injury prevented the eagle from hunting effectively, leaving the bird emaciated.

Video shows a DNR conservation officer carefully approaching and safely securing the eagle before transporting it to West Michigan Wildlife Rehabilitation.

The eagle was later transferred to another facility with more space and flight pens. It is now recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation center.

DNR staff are trained to assist bald eagles in these situations. Officials urge people who find injured wildlife to contact a local licensed wildlife rehabilitator rather than attempting to help the animal themselves.
