Huge Rockfall Buries Cars After Powerful Earthquake Shakes Naples Area

Pozzuoli, Campi Flegrei, Naples area, Italy – Video filmed by X user El Frosho Lavezzi shows a residential area covered in thick dust and debris following a major rockfall. A metal gate stands partially open as the dust cloud hangs over the scene.

People, including a woman carrying a small child and an older man wearing a white shirt, walk through the devastated area. Large boulders and broken rocks cover the ground, crushing or damaging several parked cars. Dust continues to rise from the collapsed hillside and surrounding trees while residents stand and look at the destruction.

The scene followed a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that struck the Campi Flegrei area near Pozzuoli at around 7:46 p.m. local time on July 31, 2026. The shallow earthquake triggered multiple rockfalls from tuff cliffs, including the major collapse seen in the video, sending large boulders onto streets and vehicles.

Thick dust clouds filled the air as residents fled outdoors. The earthquake, one of the strongest in the area in decades linked to ongoing bradysism, caused building damage, power outages, transport disruptions, and several minor injuries. Aftershocks continued into the night.
