Horse Pico Rescued After Escaping Into Flooded Streets During Heavy Rains In Wisconsin

Wisconsin, United States – A horse named Pico was safely recovered by police after escaping from private property amid heavy rains and flooding conditions.

The Milwaukee Police Department said officers responded on Friday to multiple emergency calls reporting a loose horse near 33rd and Brown. Members of the mounted patrol unit were among those who arrived at the scene.

Officer Ryan Sharp described how the situation unfolded. “Once I got there, I was able to approach the horse initially. Walked away for a second. Just kind of persistent. Walked up to him, stayed calm. Show him the carrot, which drew his attention. He came in to me. Luckily, the owner had his halter on,” Sharp said. “Followed me right into the trailer. And, spent the night in our lovely, urban stables here. So I don’t think it was too mad about getting out of the rain.”

The horse’s owner, Brandon Hobson, said Pico appeared to have followed food left behind. “When we left, I think we had a little bit too much sweet feed and treats come out of our pocket,” Hobson said. “So he followed that trail, and then he kind of moved a barrier, and then he got out.”

Authorities confirmed the horse was safely contained after the incident.
