Valdemingómez, Spain – The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into a man over a possible animal cruelty offense after officers from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) discovered a horse in an agonizing condition surrounded by rubbish in Valdemingómez, which ultimately had to be euthanized.
Officers from Rivas-Vaciamadrid were sent to the scene after a call from a person in the area reporting that a horse was lying motionless on the ground and surrounded by trash.
Once at the location, Seprona agents confirmed the animal was in a critical condition and activated the Madrid City Council veterinary team (SEVEMUR), which determined that euthanasia was necessary. A necropsy was carried out at that time.
The horse was identified through a microchip, and after the relevant investigation, authorities located the owner, who is now under investigation for a possible animal cruelty offense.
