Lucca, Italy – Firefighting operations are continuing as a vegetation fire burns between Lucca at Santa Maria del Giudice and the province of Pisa, affecting the municipalities of San Giuliano Terme and Asciano on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Throughout the night, crews remained active on the ground while drones equipped with thermal cameras were used to monitor active hotspots.

From the early hours of the morning, three Canadair aircraft joined the response, arriving from bases in Ciampino and Genoa to assist with firefighting efforts.

During the night, evacuations of homes were ordered in the Asciano area.
