Spring, Texas – A small tortoiseshell kitten is safe after falling into a storm drain in the Birnham Wood neighborhood.
The incident was captured in video filmed by the Spring Fire Department, showing firefighters responding to a residential area where a kitten had become trapped inside a storm drain system.
The original post caption reads: “All in day’s work as Spring Fire Apparatus Operator Johnathan Lumpkin rescues a kitten from a storm drain in BirnhamWood. The family that called for help from Ladder 74C after seeing the kitten fall in is taking care of the tiny tortie.”
Firefighters arrived after a local family reported the incident, having seen the kitten fall into the drain near Hardy Toll Road and FM 1960 Road East on or around June 1, 2026. Ladder 74C was dispatched to the scene.
Footage shows Apparatus Operator Johnathan Lumpkin entering the storm drain system and moving through a confined space. He reaches the trapped tortoiseshell kitten and carefully secures it before exiting.
Lumpkin is then seen emerging with the kitten safely in his hands. The animal appears frightened but unharmed, while nearby firefighters and the reporting family observe the rescue.
The kitten was confirmed safe after the operation. The family that reported the incident has taken responsibility for caring for the animal.
Officials described the response as a routine call carried out safely and without incident, with no injuries reported.
