Hailstorm Paralyzes Mexico City As Streets Turn Into Rivers

Mexico City, Mexico – Intense rainfall and a heavy hailstorm struck Cuajimalpa in western Mexico City on the night of June 1, 2026.

Thick rain fell in dense sheets while hail rapidly accumulated on streets and sidewalks. The footage shows roads becoming coated in a white layer of hail as water quickly began to pool and spread.

The camera captures the force of the downpour as conditions worsen across the residential area.

The extreme weather occurred during a severe thunderstorm affecting the western part of Mexico City that night.

The Secretaría de Gestión Integral de Riesgos y Protección Civil issued a Purple Alert for Cuajimalpa, the highest warning level, due to the risk of torrential rainfall exceeding 70 millimeters in a short period along with possible hail.

The storm led to street flooding, stranded vehicles, and strong water currents in several parts of the borough.

Nearby areas including Interlomas and Jesús del Monte were also affected, with some streets temporarily turning into flowing channels as hail covered sections of the ground.

The video was widely shared as one of the clearest visual records of the severe weather impacting the western part of the capital that night.
