Grappler Tether Breaks During Chase Before Deputies Stop Fleeing Driver

Thurston County, WA – At approximately 1:25 a.m. on May 5, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle after learning the driver had a suspended license and an active warrant tied to a hit-and-run.

The driver refused to stop and fled, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, a PIT maneuver forced the vehicle off the road and down an embankment, but the driver regained control and continued fleeing.

A deputy then deployed a Grappler device designed to stop the rear of the vehicle. The tether line broke during the attempt, but it still managed to latch onto the rear tire, slowing the car.

Deputies later boxed the vehicle in, and the driver surrendered.

A passenger was also found inside.

The suspect was booked on several charges, including attempting to elude law enforcement, driving on a suspended license, reckless endangerment domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment domestic violence, and the active warrant. Bail was set at $35,000.

Authorities praised the deputies’ actions and warned that fleeing only increases danger to passengers and the public.
