Riviera Beach, Florida – A Florida man’s morning routine came to an unexpected halt when he discovered a 7-foot boa constrictor resting in his driveway.
Jay Slagle spotted the massive snake from his second-floor window on Sunday in the Woodbine neighborhood, delaying his plans to leave for work.
A neighbor, alarmed by the snake, called 911 and warned they might shoot it if help did not arrive quickly.
Riviera Beach Police Officer Josh Wilson responded and, with Slagle’s help, carefully scooped the snake into a recycling bin using a shovel.
A state-licensed trapper was then called to safely relocate the snake away from the neighborhood.
Python hunter Taylor Stanberry, who reviewed footage of the incident, said the boa was likely an escaped pet and “an expensive one.” She added that boa constrictors typically sell for between $100 and over $1,000.
