Garfield County, Colorado – Flash flooding and debris flows on July 20, 2026, closed portions of Interstate 70 between Silt and New Castle, along with local roads in the Peach Valley area.

Video from the scene shows floodwaters, mud, and debris covering sections of roadway and I-70. Logs are visible on the highway as traffic backs up and crews respond to the closures.

County Road 214 (Peach Valley Road) was completely flooded at the intersection with County Road 262 (Mid Valley Lane). Both roads were closed due to swift-moving water and multiple logs in the roadway.

Floodwaters from Peach Valley also moved onto I-70 near mile markers 101–102, approximately one mile east of Coal Ridge High School between Silt and New Castle, affecting both eastbound and westbound lanes.

CDOT crews worked for days to clear mud and debris that reached several feet deep in places before the interstate was fully reopened.
