Firefighting Planes Scoop Seawater From Spanish Beach To Battle Massive Wildfire

Peñíscola, Spain – Yellow amphibious firefighting aircraft skim the sea off a beach in Peñíscola, creating large white wakes as they scoop seawater into their tanks to support aerial firefighting operations on the Tírig wildfire in Castellón province.

The planes fly low over the waves before climbing after filling their tanks. Beachgoers stand in shallow water and along the shore watching the operation, while the coastal town and its multi-story buildings are visible in the background beneath a partly cloudy sky.

The firefighting effort includes two forest firefighter brigades, two ALFA amphibious aircraft, two FOCA amphibious aircraft, four helicopters and one coordination plane.

Nearly 200 central government personnel have also been deployed to support the operation.
