Firefighters Rescue Baby Raccoon From Storm Drain In Dramatic Weather Response

Colorado Springs, USA – Firefighters from Station 6 responded this evening to a rescue call after a baby raccoon was found alone and in distress inside a storm drain following severe weather that moved through the area.

Crews worked to safely retrieve the young animal from the drain. Once it was brought out, firefighters transported it back to the station and began contacting wildlife assistance services to arrange proper care.

After the rescue, the baby raccoon was given temporary shelter inside the fire station. It was placed in a makeshift nursery setup that included a blanket, a teddy bear, and a trash can used as a crib.

The firefighters kept the animal warm and comfortable while waiting for help from wildlife care organizations.

Support was later provided by TCRAS, the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter, and Catamount Wildlife Center, who assisted in ensuring the baby raccoon would receive appropriate care.

The rescue followed weather conditions earlier in the day that led to the animal being trapped inside the storm drain.
