Santa Barbara, United States – Fire crews responded to a fire aboard a non-operational natural gas platform offshore of Santa Barbara as part of a coordinated regional mutual-aid operation involving multiple agencies.
Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD), working in partnership with Ventura County Harbor Patrol, deployed Boat 15 to support the offshore response.
The incident was managed under the command structure of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, alongside additional regional agencies assisting the operation.
Officials said the response drew on established Ocean Operational Area coordination systems, including the U.S. Coast Guard Area Maritime Security Committee, Area Contingency Planning Regions 4 and 5, and Sector LA/LB Marine Firefighting Contingency Planning.
The firefighting approach incorporated marine response methods modeled on wildland air operations management, including vessel coordination and supervisory vessel support roles adapted for maritime conditions.
Authorities noted that while wildfire mutual aid often deploys crews across California, this incident highlighted the importance of regional cooperation closer to Ventura County’s coastline.
Officials emphasized that the operation reflected strong interagency coordination and the shared commitment to protecting communities across land, sea, and air.
