Fire Breaks Out During Fallas Festival Finale In Spain As Crowd Flees

Alzira, Spain – Footage recorded by X user BĒR shows a chaotic nighttime scene during the traditional burning of the Falla Plaça Major in Alzira.

A massive orange fire engulfs the monument before suddenly spreading out of control, setting a nearby spectator tent and a tree on fire as thick smoke and sparks rise into the dark sky.

Hundreds of people gathered in the foreground react in panic, with many turning and running away as the flames intensify, creating moments of visible danger and tension under streetlights and illuminated trees.

The incident took place on March 19, 2026, the main night of the burning that marks the end of the Fallas festival across the Valencian Community.

It happened in front of a very large crowd, with some reports of second-degree burns among attendees from Falla Plaça Major.

Local authorities had firefighters and Civil Protection present for the planned burning, but the rapid spread of the fire led to brief high-risk moments without any structural collapse or widespread injuries.

The post describing the event stated: “Burning of the Falla Plaça Major of Alzira. The fire burned the tent and a tree and people ran out of the area. There was so much public watching the burning that there were moments of danger and tension among those attending”.
