Earthquake Shakes Catania Area As Firefighters Race To Check Damaged Buildings

Catania, Italy – Firefighters continue working in the municipality of Ragalna following an earthquake that struck the foothill area of Catania in the early hours of Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Ragalna has been identified as the location most affected by the seismic event. Authorities report that more than 100 inspection requests are still waiting to be carried out, while over 20 interventions have already been completed.

At the scene, three firefighting teams along with three technical officers are conducting structural inspections on buildings that suffered damage or partial collapses.

Checks are also being performed along the main roads across the municipality as crews assess the impact of the earthquake.
