New Smyrna Beach, Florida – Video filmed by Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood shows an off-duty Volusia Sheriff’s Office sergeant, Jason Stickels, 44, involved in a disturbing incident at Merk’s Bar & Grill.

The footage shows Stickels intoxicated and acting erratically while harassing people at the business. He is seen approaching a woman and attempting to kiss her before confronting an elderly couple seated at a table.

The incident escalated as Stickels physically assaulted the couple, who were ages 71 and 77.

A bystander stepped in and intervened, performing a takedown and stopping the confrontation.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood condemned the behavior, apologized to the couple involved, and praised the citizen who stepped forward to help.

Stickels was arrested and is facing felony battery charges after the incident.
