Driver Strikes Stopped Fire Truck Before Leading Wild Florida Chase

Volusia County, Florida, USA – A driver struck a County of Volusia fire truck that was stopped on International Speedway Boulevard while crews were responding to a single-vehicle rollover crash.

After the impact, the driver fled west on International Speedway Boulevard toward DeLand. He drove at high speed, passing vehicles on the grass and shoulder and nearly colliding several times.

In DeLand, the driver briefly stopped to let two passengers out of the vehicle before continuing to flee.

He later attempted to pass traffic at Amelia Avenue, struck a culvert, crashed into a pole, exited the damaged vehicle, and ran into the Publix plaza. Officers pursued him on foot, and K-9 units were deployed during the search. He was ultimately apprehended after a short chase.

Jamal Anthony Riascos, 27, of DeLand, faces charges including fleeing or attempting to elude with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving, resisting, and violation of probation. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
