Dramatic Mountain Rescue Near Castellón Waterfall As Storms Block Helicopter Evacuation

Villahermosa del Río, Spain – Video filmed by X user Bombers Dipcas shows a complex technical rescue carried out by Castellón Provincial Firefighters on Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2026, at the Cascada del Río Carbo.

The operation took place in a difficult-to-access area near the waterfall, where firefighters from the URM (Urban Rescue and Mountain) unit worked for several hours to reach an injured man.

The casualty, a 50-year-old man, had suffered a serious leg injury and required urgent extraction.

GVA112’s rescue helicopter also supported the operation, but stormy weather conditions made air evacuation unsafe.

Due to the weather restrictions, rescuers were forced to abandon helicopter transfer for the extraction phase.

Instead, a high-capacity crane and rescue basket were used to lift the man from the site.

Once extracted, he was transported by land ambulance to the Hospital General de Castellón.

The operation involved multiple fire stations and the air rescue unit and was described as one of the most technically demanding mountain rescues carried out in the province that day.

The injured man was reported to be in stable condition after the rescue.
