Dramatic Mountain Rescue Airlifts Injured Hiker In Aragon

Vio, Spain – A 65-year-old local hiker was swiftly rescued after suffering a fractured ankle during a fall on a trail near Vio in Fanlo, Huesca province, Aragon.

The GREIM (Rural Special Mountain Intervention Group) of Boltaña carried out a precision mountain operation in rugged terrain. A Guardia Civil helicopter hovered just inches above the rocky ground as rescuers on foot secured the injured woman and carefully loaded her aboard.

The aircraft then transported her directly to Hospital San Jorge in Huesca. The rapid response involved close coordination between the Huesca aerial unit and 061 medical personnel following an alert on March 22, 2026, during a busy weekend for mountain incidents across the Aragonese Pyrenees.

From aerial observation to extraction, the hiker was safely removed without further complications.
