Colorado – Firefighters from the Colorado Springs Fire Department received an unusual escort while working on the Rock Creek Fire when a determined goat took the lead along the trail toward the fire area.

The department joked that every crew needs a good leader and suggested that theirs apparently had four legs.

As crews moved through the rugged terrain, the goat guided the way and even contributed to fuel mitigation efforts by grazing on vegetation along the route.

Officials also joked that while the animal might not yet be ready for a badge, they were not ruling it out either.

The video shows a brown and white goat wearing a purple collar confidently walking ahead of firefighters on a steep, rocky dirt trail in a forested area filled with smoke.

The goat occasionally stops to look around or graze as firefighters in full yellow protective gear, carrying packs and tools, follow closely behind through trees and vegetation.

Smoke drifts through the background as the animal continues toward the fire line while naturally clearing some underbrush along the way.

The lighthearted encounter offered an unexpected moment during operations on the Rock Creek Fire in Colorado’s rugged landscape.
