Dark Wall Cloud Hangs Over Texas Panhandle As Severe Storms Sweep Through

Nazareth, Texas – A dark, tapered wall cloud hangs beneath a low storm base near Nazareth as severe weather moves across the Texas Panhandle Tuesday evening, September 29.

The dashcam video, filmed by X user BeauMcFarland_OC_Weather, shows the lowering holding its shape beyond a rain-streaked windshield as the vehicle travels along a wet two-lane road. Rain and mist obscure the ground beneath it.

The poster tagged NWS Amarillo and described the formation as a rotating, low-hanging wall cloud near Nazareth.

NWS offices covering the Texas Panhandle were warning of severe storms that evening. NWS Lubbock later issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northwestern Castro County, including the Dimmitt, Lazbuddie and Summerfield areas, citing 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail while urging people to remain alert for a possible tornado.

NWS Amarillo also warned of radar-indicated rotation later that night near Claude, Groom, Canyon and Amarillo, although those warnings involved nearby counties rather than the location shown in the clip.

Regional forecasts had warned of isolated strong to severe storms, damaging winds, hail and a tornado threat across West Texas and the Panhandle as a front interacted with leftover tropical moisture.

There was no confirmation that the lowering near Nazareth produced a tornado or caused damage.
