Dark Smoke Towers Over Murcia As Wildfire Continues To Burn

Murcia, Spain – Video filmed by X user Antonio Hernandez shows dense, dark smoke billowing from a wildfire in the Murcia region on June 2, 2026.

In the accompanying post, the user expressed deep distress over the disaster unfolding in Murcia.

The footage captures thick plumes of smoke rising into the sky from the burning terrain, creating a dramatic scene that highlights the scale and intensity of the blaze affecting the hills near the pedanias of Los Garres and Lages.

The video shows heavy smoke spreading across the area as the wildfire continues to advance, illustrating the difficult conditions faced on the ground.

The footage documents the major forest fire declared on the afternoon of June 2 in Los Garres and Lages near the city of Murcia.

The blaze has burned more than 177 hectares and led to the preventive evacuation of around 100 homes because of smoke and the threat to nearby residences.

More than 300 emergency personnel, including forest brigades, firefighters, police and the Unidad Militar de Emergencias (UME), have been mobilized to combat the fire.

Authorities report that the fire front nearest to populated areas has been contained and that the situation is evolving favorably. However, the wildfire continues to generate significant smoke as it moves through mountainous terrain toward areas such as La Alberca.

Several local roads remain closed as emergency operations continue.
