Crews Fight Relentless Snow To Keep Roads Open

Binghamton, New York – Weeks after a massive snowstorm hit upstate New York, crews continue battling lingering drifts to keep highways safe.

Video from the New York State Department of Transportation shows a snow blower on I-88 blasting towering arcs of snow off the roadway. Lanes and guardrails remain buried under heavy snow as crews work to restore safe travel.

Photos from Route 17 show plowed lanes with massive snowbanks, equipment poised for further clearing, and personnel braving the harsh conditions.

“More than a week after a massive statewide snowstorm, the work continues. Our crews are still out clearing lingering snow because safety doesn’t stop when the flakes stop,” the NYSDOT said.

The lingering storm caused widespread closures and dangerous roads across Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, Schoharie, and Tioga counties, showing the extreme effort required to protect drivers in the wake of brutal winter weather.
