Custer County, Colorado, USA – Officials provided a Tuesday morning update on the Aspen Acres wildfire, reporting dozens of spot fires across the county and ongoing efforts under a Red Flag Warning affecting the entire area.

Authorities said there is a 2–3 hour window for aircraft operations before critical fire weather conditions intensify and continue into the evening. They noted that life safety remains the top priority.

Deputies have been using personal chain saws equipped with spark arrestors and fire extinguishers to clear fallen limbs from county roads while working to keep access routes open.

Officials are also assessing damage and working on plans to return residents to their homes. Deputies are driving through neighborhoods, recording addresses and visible damage levels, with information to be shared later at a credentialing site.

A re-entry and credentials program is being established. Evacuated residents will need proof of address, such as a driver’s license, utility bill, or mail, and will receive a windshield placard identifying their zone. Residents will be notified as each zone is cleared.

Officials confirmed that livestock checks are also being coordinated, while no residents required shelter overnight in Wetmore, though the facility remains open.

A collapsed bridge on Highway 165 north of Aspen Acres campground is limiting access, forcing fire crews to take longer routes through Beulah. A portable bridge has been requested from the National Guard, as restoring access is considered a high priority.
