New York, New York – On February 10, 2026, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Hawser (WYTL-65610) carried out critical icebreaking operations in New York Harbor.
The vessel navigated icy waters to ensure that shipping lanes remained safe and passable amid winter conditions. Crews worked to maintain open waterways not only in the harbor but also along the Hudson River all the way to Albany.
These operations are essential for protecting maritime traffic, supporting commerce, and preventing hazards caused by thick ice accumulation in one of the nation’s busiest ports.
The ongoing icebreaking mission highlights the Coast Guard’s role in safeguarding both commercial and recreational vessels during harsh winter weather.
