Civil Guard Dismantles Criminal Group Behind €300,000 Public Lighting Cable Theft in Spain

Extremadura, Spain – The Civil Guard has dismantled a criminal group responsible for stealing public lighting cables in Extremadura. Nine individuals were arrested in connection with the theft of cable in around 30 localities, with an estimated value of approximately €300,000.

Of the nine arrested, four have been sent to prison. The group’s activities caused significant damage to infrastructure and disruptions to the electrical supply in various municipalities.

The stolen cables were sold at a recycling point in Badajoz, where the criminals used the illegal identities of third parties to carry out the transactions.
