Milwaukee, United States – A video filmed at the Milwaukee County Zoo shows young visitors reacting in awe as a large hippopotamus named Happy passes directly in front of an underwater viewing window.
The footage begins with Happy’s massive grey head and snout pressed close to the glass. Her eyes are visible as bubbles and water move around her in the green pool. She then slowly swims past, revealing her full body gliding through the water just beyond the window.
The strongest focus of the video is the children’s reactions. A toddler in a red-and-blue jacket stands on tiptoes, pressing both hands against the glass while bouncing with excitement as the hippo moves past. Another young boy in a black shirt crouches near the window, reaching toward the glass while watching the animal closely as it swims by.
Further clips show Happy surfacing in the outdoor pool, with her head and ears above the water before she submerges again and continues passing the viewing area underwater.
The repeated close passes of the hippo trigger clear moments of wonder, as the children remain fixed on the animal moving just on the other side of the glass.
Shared with a caption highlighting the joyful reaction, the video captures the powerful effect of the underwater encounter on visiting children at the exhibit.
