Clark County, WA – A deputy broke a car window to rescue a toddler left alone inside a parked vehicle after reports from concerned witnesses.

Authorities issued a reminder as summer temperatures rise, warning that children and pets should never be left inside vehicles, even briefly.

Last month, Deputy Hulsey responded to a 911 call after witnesses reported a small child alone in a parked car. Bystanders noticed the situation and gathered around the vehicle, attempting to provide shade while waiting for help.

With outdoor temperatures reaching 92°F, the engine turned off, and only a small crack in the rear window, the deputy found a 2-year-old child strapped in a car seat. The child was sweating heavily, with his head tilted and no response.

Believing the child was in immediate danger, Deputy Hulsey broke the vehicle window to gain access. The deputy removed the child and placed him inside an air-conditioned patrol vehicle before medical personnel evaluated him.

Investigators later determined the toddler had been left inside the vehicle for about 16 minutes. By the time deputies located the parents, they had been inside a nearby grocery store for nearly 30 minutes. Both parents were charged with Reckless Endangerment, and Child Protective Services was notified.
