Tokyo, Japan – Video filmed by X user Lily shows the moment a major emergency response unfolded outside the GINZA SIX luxury shopping mall in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza district on May 25, 2026.
The first clip begins inside the mall as the person filming rides an escalator down from the 6th-floor Eataly terrace. As she exits onto the street, a large-scale emergency operation is already in full motion outside the building.
Multiple red Tokyo Fire Department trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles line the street. Dozens of firefighters, paramedics, and officers are seen treating people on stretchers and blue tarps placed on the pavement.
A second clip, recorded from an upper floor inside the mall through the glass entrance, shows the wider scene. Emergency workers in full gear gather around medical equipment as the response continues outside the luxury complex.
Around noon on May 25, a man sprayed an unknown irritating substance, believed to be pepper spray or capsaicin, near an ATM on the ground floor inside GINZA SIX.
The substance caused irritation among bystanders, including sore throats, coughing, and respiratory discomfort.
Around 25 to 26 people reported symptoms, and 19 were transported to hospital, mostly with mild injuries. The suspect fled the scene.
The incident triggered a large emergency deployment, with roads blocked and emergency services filling the street in front of the mall.
Police are treating the case as an assault investigation. No serious injuries have been reported.
The footage was recorded by a shopper who was having lunch on the 6th floor at the time and was later widely shared after being captured during the unfolding response.
