Doha, Qatar – Hundreds of stranded passengers filled Hamad International Airport on March 1, 2026, after widespread flight cancellations were triggered by airspace closures following U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran.
Video filmed by X user Varun Krishnan shows the packed terminal under bright fluorescent lights. Families with luggage, businesspeople in suits, and tourists in casual clothing crowded the hall, many sitting on the floor against walls and pillars. Long lines stretched toward airline counters and information desks as overhead boards flashed rows of “Cancelled” and “Delayed,” replacing the usual airport flow with tense uncertainty.
As the handheld camera pans across the space, the scale of the disruption becomes clear. Travelers lie across benches or the ground, using jackets as pillows, while children play among stacked suitcases. Staff attempts to manage the throng with updates over loudspeakers. The terminal’s high ceilings and sleek design stand in sharp contrast to the exhausted crowd halted inside one of the world’s busiest hubs.
The footage lingers on the sea of stranded passengers waiting hours for hotel vouchers or rebookings, with operations still suspended and no immediate end in sight.
The conflict in the Middle East led to the closure of key airports in Doha, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, stranding tens of thousands. An estimated 8,000 were affected in Qatar alone. Airlines, including Qatar Airways and Emirates, halted flights for days, forcing passengers to shelter in place or search for alternatives as phone lines were jammed and hotel availability remained limited.
