Trochu, Alberta, Canada – A driver travelling on Highway 21 south of Trochu was caught in a severe dust storm described as a “dirt blizzard” on May 14, 2026.
The video shows thick brown soil and dust completely covering the roadway, leaving visibility reduced to almost nothing as the vehicle moved forward.
Faint outlines of the highway lines, metal guardrails, and the headlights of an oncoming truck can only just be seen through the swirling cloud of dirt.
Inside the vehicle, the dashboard and a rope or cable are visible while the outside landscape is fully obscured by wind-driven soil.
The conditions were caused by strong winds blowing across freshly cultivated dry farmland, lifting large amounts of soil into the air.
The storm was part of a broader weather event affecting much of Alberta on May 14, with similar near-zero visibility reported on several highways.
The clip was posted with the caption: “It’s a dirt blizzard!”
