Barcelona Basilica Lights Up As Sagrada Família Crowds Witness Historic Tower Blessing

Barcelona, Spain – Thousands of people gathered at the Sagrada Família basilica on the evening of 10 June 2026 to witness the historic blessing and inauguration of the central Tower of Jesus Christ.

The video was filmed by X user María Candela Temes from within the large crowd assembled at the site.

The footage shows the basilica’s towering spires glowing dramatically against the night sky. The central spire is crowned with a bright star-like cross that shines in a golden light, while the intricate stonework and colorful architectural details of Antoni Gaudí’s design are illuminated by powerful lighting.

In the foreground, a large crowd holds smartphones above their heads, creating a field of small glowing screens and lights across the scene. A stage area with large screens and an altar setup is positioned in front of the basilica as the ceremony takes place.

As the event unfolds, fireworks and flares erupt around the towers. Bright bursts of light shoot into the sky, while smoke in white and colored tones spreads across the illuminated facade. The central tower remains the focal point as light trails and sparks fill the air, with the crowd reacting in awe and continuing to record the moment.

The ceremony marked a major milestone for the Sagrada Família and coincided with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death. Pope Leo XIV presided over the blessing of the Tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest and most symbolic spire of the basilica.

The event completes a key stage of construction on a project that has continued for more than 140 years. The nighttime display of fireworks and light projections drew widespread attention as Barcelona marked the culmination of Gaudí’s long-running architectural vision.
