Texas, USA – Emergency responders rushed to a flooded creek crossing after a vehicle drove into rushing water during heavy rain and began being pushed by the current.
Officials said conditions changed rapidly as the rain intensified, and barricades had not yet been placed around the crossing when the incident happened.
As the vehicle approached the flooded area, the Fire Chief attempted to wave the driver down to prevent them from entering the water, but the driver did not see him in time.
Ptl. Puente entered the floodwater and helped remove a baby from the vehicle while additional responders arrived at the scene. A volunteer firefighter also assisted during the rescue operation.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
Authorities warned that floodwaters can quickly become deadly and said even a small amount of moving water can push a vehicle off the roadway. Officials also stressed that drivers should never go around barricades placed near flooded roads or crossings, noting that doing so is both dangerous and a criminal offense.
Drivers were urged to slow down during heavy rain, avoid flooded areas, and use caution near creek crossings and roads known to flood.
