Linville Caverns, North Carolina – The Army Corps of Engineers has begun removing debris from the waterfall at Linville Caverns.
The site has been blocked with trees and other material since Hurricane Helene caused heavy flooding in western North Carolina in late September.
A video shows the difficult terrain the crews must cross to reach the clogged waterway.
Specialized logging equipment is used to cut and lift the debris.
After limbs are removed, heavy logs are loaded onto a flatbed harvester.
The equipment is then slowly driven downstream to a nearby parking lot.
This area serves as a Temporary Off-Load Site.
The vegetation is later moved to a central Temporary Debris Reduction Site for final disposal or recycling.
