Approaching Rain Band And Dark Storm Wall Close In On Chicago Skyline

Chicago, United States – A high-angle video filmed by Nick Liveris shows a small band of rain moving toward downtown, captured from the Near North Side at LaSalle and Division.

Recorded from a SkyCam vantage point, the footage pans across a broad urban landscape under heavy, overcast skies. Glass-and-steel high-rises, mid-rise residential buildings, tree-lined streets with moving traffic, parking lots, and a red-and-white Target store are visible across the scene.

A massive wall of dark gray storm clouds dominates the sky, with clear vertical rain shafts falling in the distance. The band steadily advances toward the city center, as mist and heavier precipitation begin to obscure distant skyscrapers and the lakefront.

The shifting conditions create a stark contrast between the clearer foreground and the approaching storm.

The caption reads, “I can see a small band of rain approaching downtown Chicago”.

The footage was captured around 11:15 a.m. on April 16, 2026, during a multi-day stretch of wet weather affecting the region. Repeated rain bands and showers brought flash flooding, particularly north of the city.

Overnight rainfall totals reached up to 4 inches in some areas, flooding roads, underpasses, and low-lying locations.
