Air Tanker Drops Heavy Retardant Over Dry Texas Grassland As Smoke Hangs Over Hills

Palo Pinto / Jack Counties, Texas – A large jet air tanker drops a heavy column of pink fire retardant over dry oak and grassland in footage filmed on September 15.

A smaller lead plane flies alongside the BAe-146/RJ-class tanker as it makes the drop, with smoke visible over the timber line.

The terrain is consistent with North Texas oak savanna, including areas in Palo Pinto and Jack counties west of Fort Worth.

Aircraft of this type were used by the Texas A&M Forest Service and local departments during the Ross Fire, which began August 24 and burned about 90,000 acres before being reported 100% contained on September 17.
