Aerial View Reveals Explosive Lightning Inside Massive Oklahoma Supercell Storm

Enid, Oklahoma, USA – Video filmed by X user SNOWCRIΞFF captures dramatic nighttime aerial footage of a powerful supercell storm system that produced a tornado in Enid, recorded from a Delta flight traveling from Seattle to New York.

The shaky handheld clip, filmed through an airplane window, shows a massive, towering storm cloud dominating the dark sky. Brilliant white and purple lightning repeatedly flashes within the cloud, illuminating its churning interior and base in intense bursts.

The Delta wingtip, lit in red, yellow, and green, is visible on the left as the aircraft passes the system at altitude. Below, the grid of city lights from Enid and surrounding areas glows steadily, creating a stark contrast with the violent storm above.

The footage was recorded on the evening of April 23, 2026, into early April 24, as the plane detoured around severe thunderstorms. The storm was part of a broader outbreak that produced a strong, long track tornado in Enid.

The tornado caused significant damage to homes, particularly in neighborhoods such as Gray Ridge Estates, impacted areas near Vance Air Force Base, and prompted a rare tornado emergency issued by the National Weather Service. No injuries were reported from the plane, while around a dozen people on the ground suffered minor injuries.

Multiple passengers on the same flight described the high altitude perspective as “incredible” and “nuts,” capturing the storm’s intensity from above.
