4-Month-Old Ejected From SUV During Arkansas State Police Chase, Driver Arrested

Camden, Arkansas – A high-speed pursuit in Arkansas ended in a crash after a driver fled from Arkansas State Police in a 2012 Toyota Highlander carrying children, reaching speeds above 100 mph before the vehicle overturned.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at about 3:15 p.m., when a trooper attempted to stop the SUV for a traffic violation. The driver failed to stop, triggering a pursuit. Troopers were initially unaware that children were inside the vehicle.

The SUV accelerated to more than 100 mph as it left Camden city limits and continued along Ouachita County Road 47. It passed multiple vehicles and crossed into oncoming traffic during the chase. Two Tactical Vehicle Intervention attempts were unsuccessful.

The pursuit ended when the driver lost control on a curve, left the roadway, entered a yard, struck a light pole, and overturned.

Troopers rushed to the scene and discovered a 4-month-old infant who had been unrestrained and ejected from the SUV. Three other children under the age of six were also rescued from the wreckage, which was near live electrical wires.

All four children were taken to Ouachita County Medical Center for evaluation and treated for minor injuries. Their mother was notified and responded to the hospital.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Tyrice Fletcher of El Dorado, was taken into custody and transported to the Ouachita County Detention Center.

Authorities said a defaced firearm and illegal marijuana were recovered from the vehicle. Fletcher, a convicted felon, faces multiple charges including felony fleeing, child endangerment, drug and weapons offenses, reckless driving, and multiple child restraint violations.

Arkansas State Police Col. Mike Hagar said recent incidents involving suspects fleeing with children have raised public concern, urging drivers to stop and prioritize child safety.
