300 Animals Rescued From Spanish Breeding Facility As Two People Arrested For Abuse

Vélez-Málaga, Spain – A total of 300 animals were rescued from a breeding facility in the Almayate area of Málaga after authorities dismantled the operation and arrested two people on animal cruelty charges.

The operation was carried out by the National Police in Vélez-Málaga, targeting a kennel where dogs and cats were being bred and sold to buyers from different parts of Andalusia.

A 74-year-old man who owned the business and a 40-year-old employee were detained as alleged suspects in ongoing animal abuse offenses, including cruelty resulting in death and exploitation linked to intensive breeding practices.

The investigation began after a passerby found a severely injured dog on a road and raised the alarm, leading officers to the property.

During a three-day search of the premises, investigators discovered hundreds of animals being kept in poor conditions, including heavy contamination with waste and inadequate hygiene standards.

Animals were found living among filth and debris, including vulnerable young ones, with many suffering from infectious diseases and parasite infestations.

Several animals had serious injuries requiring urgent veterinary treatment, and some female breeding animals required emergency sterilization after being diagnosed with uterine infections. A dead cat was also discovered inside one of the cages.

All 300 rescued dogs and cats were placed under protection and transferred to multiple animal welfare organizations in the Málaga region for care and recovery.

A veterinarian responsible for providing medical assistance at the facility is also under investigation and has given a statement regarding the case.
