18 Months Old Child Rescued Unharmed After Armed Standoff In Casper Home

Casper, United States – An 18-month-old child was safely rescued after a prolonged armed standoff at a residence in the 1000 block of St. John Street, where police later took an armed suspect into custody.

Casper Police Department officers responded on April 18, 2026, after a neighbor reported yelling and a gunshot coming from a nearby apartment around 9:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with an adult male who refused to leave the residence. He was observed with multiple firearms, including an AR-style rifle and a handgun. Officers also confirmed that an 18-month-old child was inside the home.

A perimeter was established, and nearby residents were warned as a precaution. A negotiator from the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office joined efforts to communicate with the suspect over several hours using verbal commands and a public address system.

During the standoff, the suspect appeared at the doorway multiple times while visibly armed and in an agitated state. On at least one occasion, he held the child in front of his body while carrying a handgun and directly challenged officers, creating a serious threat to both the child and law enforcement.

Due to escalating danger, refusal to comply, and risk to the child, officers obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Before executing the warrant, surveillance confirmed the suspect and child were asleep inside the residence. Officers entered and removed the child before taking the suspect into custody.

A firearm was recovered beneath the suspect during the arrest, and additional weapons were found inside the home. Unsafe conditions were also reported, including broken glass and drug paraphernalia.

The suspect, Brayden Randolph, 19, of Casper, was booked into the Natrona County Detention Center on multiple charges.

The Department of Family Services responded and, following a safety assessment, released the child to the care of her mother.

Officials said de-escalation efforts were made throughout the incident before the warrant was executed due to imminent danger.
