Saratoga Springs, New York – On June 16, 2026, a barn fire at the Saratoga Casino Hotel harness track killed 17 horses.

Body-camera footage shows officers and security personnel working urgently in darkness as smoke and flames engulf a nearby structure. About 10 horses stood frozen in their stalls inside an adjacent barn as responders rushed to free them.

Officers and security personnel guided the horses out of the barn and to safety while the fire burned intensely nearby.

Police said the rescue also benefited from officers working with the Mounted Unit, who understood the horses’ behavior, equipment and communication.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the barns after a fire was reported and found a barn fully engulfed in flames.

Two dispatchers, Ryan and Ward, handled the demands of the large incident while continuing to dispatch other calls throughout the city.
