1,600-Meter Smoke Plume Rises As Sakurajima Explodes In Powerful Eruption

Sakurajima, Japan – Sakurajima produced an explosive eruption on July 29, 2026, sending a smoke plume 1,600 meters above the crater.

The eruption occurred at 8:59 p.m. and marked the 15th explosive eruption recorded at Sakurajima in 2026.

The volcanic activity sent a towering column of smoke above the crater as the eruption unfolded.
