Osaka, Japan – A young deer was seen calmly walking through urban streets and sidewalks as a cyclist and friends rode alongside, observing it closely while it moved past buildings, parked cars, and greenery.
The animal continued at a relaxed pace, occasionally stopping to look around or nibble, as the group followed it while riding bicycles. It was heading in the direction of Nara, prompting speculation that it may be attempting to return to Nara Park on its own.
The deer is the same young male that has been roaming Osaka since around March 11–22, 2026. Multiple confirmed sightings have placed it in areas including Higashi-Osaka, Tsurumi, Joto, and Miyakojima Ward, located about 2.5 kilometers from Osaka Station and Umeda.
It is believed the deer has traveled more than 20–30 kilometers from Nara Park, possibly crossing Mount Ikoma. This movement comes amid an increase in deer leaving the park due to overcrowding and territorial disputes.
Osaka city officials and police are monitoring the animal, describing it as calm and accustomed to people. There are no plans to capture it, as it poses no threat. Authorities are urging the public not to approach, feed, or disturb the deer so it can return naturally.
The person who recorded the scene said: “When I was riding my bike with friends in Osaka city, we came across the deer everyone has been talking about. I got curious and followed it for a bit. It was walking toward Nara, maybe it is trying to make its way back to Nara Park on its own.”
