Elk Grove, CA – A woman was rescued after a fire erupted in her garage early on Jan. 29, sending smoke billowing through her home.

The blaze broke out around 3 a.m. on Laguna Villa Way near Laguna Boulevard. Her roommate woke her as smoke filled the house.

Police and firefighters carried the woman to safety, removing her from the dangerous smoke-filled environment.

The fire destroyed the garage and an electric vehicle inside. The homeowner said she had charged the car earlier in the day, but it was not plugged in overnight.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
