Whiteout Chaos Grips Chicago

Chicago, Illinois – Video filmed by John Regalado shows the season’s first snow blanketing a city street, with heavy flakes, cars buried under accumulation, and trees partially hidden by the falling snow. The clip was posted on X at 19:40 on November 10, 2025.

The snowfall is part of a major weather event across the Chicago area. Some neighborhoods saw up to a foot of snow, prompting school closures, flight cancellations at O’Hare and Midway, and whiteout conditions on roads.

The storm’s power stems from lake-effect snow, created when cold air moves over Lake Michigan. Wind gusts nearly reached 60 mph, intensifying the hazards seen in the video.

This early November first snowfall is unusual for Chicago. It comes with a broader Arctic air mass pushing south and threatening low temperature records as far as Florida.

The video’s images of deepening snow and poor visibility match warnings from the National Weather Service of dangerous and life-threatening conditions within intense lake-effect bands.
