Puerto de Mazarron, Murcia, Spain – Video recorded on December 28, 2025, shows a powerful waterspout forming over the Mediterranean Sea as severe storm clouds loom over the coastline.
The footage shows a tall, narrow funnel cloud descending from the dark sky and connecting with the sea surface, whipping up a visible spray of water as it rotates. Rough seas, distant cliffs, and a lighthouse appear in the background, with the waterspout remaining offshore in this particular clip.
The video was shared as part of a thread reporting that two waterspouts made landfall in Mazarron later that afternoon during a severe storm system affecting southern and eastern Spain.
Multiple waterspouts formed off the coast of Puerto de Mazarron under orange and red weather alerts for torrential rain, storms, and possible tornadoes in Murcia and neighboring Andalusia. At least two waterspouts, and possibly up to seven according to eyewitnesses, touched down in the port area between 5 and 6 PM.
The strongest waterspout struck the harbor and promenade, hurling chairs, tables, awnings, roof sheets up to six meters long, boat parts, and sails high into the air. Some debris landed as far as 1.5 kilometers away. Several yachts and boats were damaged, restaurant terraces and roofs were torn away, urban furniture was affected, and at least one car was flipped or displaced in the fishing port. The driver escaped safely to nearby shelter.
No injuries were reported from the waterspouts themselves. Damage was limited to material losses, mainly affecting private businesses along the waterfront and port infrastructure. Eyewitnesses described the scene as “absolute madness,” with objects flying like paper and people fleeing terraces as the waterspouts came ashore.
The waterspouts weakened and dissipated after moving inland, accompanied by heavy rain, hail, and thunderstorms. The event occurred during a broader weekend storm that caused widespread flash flooding across Murcia, Valencia, and eastern Andalusia, resulting in at least two deaths elsewhere but no fatalities in Mazarron.
