Cartama, Malaga, Andalusia, Spain – Video recorded on December 28, 2025, shows violent nighttime flooding tearing through a low-lying road beneath a bridge in the town of Cartama.
The footage captures muddy brown floodwaters surging with extreme force, rising to chest-high levels on vehicles and forming chaotic currents under dim street lighting.
Multiple cars are trapped in the flow. A white vehicle is seen tilted at a dangerous angle and nearly swallowed by the water, while other vehicles behind it are struck, pushed, and battered as the current surges through the underpass. Debris and foam swirl across the surface, and a pedestrian crossing sign remains visible amid the rushing water as vehicles are dragged along.
According to the caption accompanying the video, the images show cars being carried away by floodwaters in Cartama during intense flooding across Malaga province, including locations such as Torrox and Coin. The Guadalhorce River reached historic levels during the event.
Flooding on December 28 and 29, 2025, included a historic overflow of the Guadalhorce River, which peaked at more than 5.8 meters. Evacuations and rescues were carried out, including families trapped inside homes. Streets and houses were flooded in areas such as Dona Ana and Estacion de Cartama, roads were closed, and more than 300 emergency incidents were reported across the province.
No fatalities were reported in Cartama, but the storm caused major material damage and widespread disruption.
