Daytona Beach, Florida – U.S. Coast Guard aircrews from Air Station Clearwater and Air Station Miami rescued a mariner from a disabled sailing vessel 75 miles southeast of Daytona Beach on Saturday.
The rescue followed the activation of the mariner’s personal locator beacon. The Air Station Clearwater helicopter crew hoisted the individual safely and transported him to Daytona Beach International Airport, where he was handed over to EMS. No injuries were reported.
The sailing vessel had become disabled due to torn sails, leaving the mariner stranded at sea. The Coast Guard emphasized the importance of carrying essential safety equipment, including a properly registered personal locator beacon, which can serve as a vital lifeline in emergencies.
U.S. Coast Guard crews remain Semper Paratus, Always Ready, to respond across the Southeast’s 1.8 million square mile area of responsibility.
